What is the 48C Program?

Up to a 30% investment tax credit for clean energy manufacturing facilities or other emissions reduction projects.

While most of the IRA’s tax credits are uncapped, 48C tax credit allocations are awarded on a competitive basis, so understanding the application requirements and the Department of Energy’s (DOE) program priorities is critical to enhancing the competitiveness of your project.

Eligible projects fall under one of three categories:

  • Clean Energy Manufacturing and Recycling Projects

  • Industrial Decarbonization Projects (formerly “Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Projects” category in Round 1)

  • Critical Material Manufacturing and Recycling Projects
