Dan Birns is a Vice President in Boundary Stone Partners’ DC office, supporting the firm’s Batteries practice group.
Dan joins BSP from the U.S. Department of State, where he served as a Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR). At ENR, Dan was responsible for coordinating clean energy technology, policy, and financing engagements around the world. Dan played a key role in shaping marquee U.S. international clean energy initiatives with partners in the Western Hemisphere, Europe, and Asia. He also led efforts to promote resilient supply chains for clean energy technologies, including batteries and polysilicon-based solar technologies.
Previously, Dan led international clean energy technology and policy engagements at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, where he managed a multi-million dollar technical cooperation program. Earlier in his career, Dan worked at the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).
Dan holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, and an M.A. in energy policy and economics from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife and two children.
