SEMA Coalition and 45x
Challenge
Solar Energy Manufacturers for America (SEMA) faced the challenge of ensuring that the 45X tax credit provided the necessary certainty to support American solar manufacturing investments in polysilicon, ingot/wafer, cell, and module production. Additionally, there was a need to ensure next-generation tandem solar technologies were treated fairly under 45X for capacity measurements.
Solution
The SEMA Coalition, with support from BSP, successfully advocated for clarifications to the 45X final rule designed to incentivize domestic solar manufacturing and support the reshoring of critical components of the supply chain. Additionally, the SEMA Coalition successfully advocated for equal treatment for capacity measurements of next-generation tandem solar technologies. These changes are expected to reshape the U.S. solar manufacturing landscape and foster American technological innovation and leadership.
